A newly unearthed collection of footage from the classic British sitcom "Only Fools and Horses" offers a glimpse into the show's enduring comedic genius, even as the world it depicted has largely vanished. "Only Fools And Horses: The Lost Archive," airing on U&Gold, showcases material that was cut from the original broadcast due to time constraints.

The program features rediscovered outtakes, including a scene with David Jason, who played Del Boy Trotter, and co-star Tessa Peake-Jones, who portrayed his wife Raquel. In one rediscovered segment, the pair are shown in a bedroom setting, eliciting giggles from Peake-Jones. The show also highlights a story from Buster Merryfield, who played Uncle Albert, recounting his wartime experiences.

"Only Fools and Horses" is recognized for the writing of John Sullivan, who penned all 64 original episodes. Sullivan's prolific output often resulted in more material than could fit into the standard broadcast time. Archivist Richard Latto has compiled the available "lost" footage, aiming to present material that was previously edited or omitted.

Critics note that while the show's setting of 1980s south London has transformed significantly, the cast members remain recognizable. The special is part of a series from U&Gold, with additional installments planned, suggesting a continued interest in exploring the show's extensive archives. The review suggests a desire for a "director's cut" that could reintegrate the excised scenes into the original episodes, a possibility for future releases.
