Lola Young Discusses Burnout and Recovery on British Vogue Cover

Lola Young is featured on the November cover of British Vogue, where she candidly discusses her recovery from burnout and addiction. The 25-year-old singer-songwriter, known for her honest lyrics addressing themes of drugs, addiction, mental health, and ADHD, detailed her transformative year.

Young took a hiatus from the public eye after collapsing on stage in September 2025, later revealing she had entered drug recovery. In an interview with British Vogue, she shared that prior to her stage collapse, she had been to rehab twice within a year for cocaine addiction, also attending a holistic facility and AA meetings, which left her feeling "severely burned out."

Following the success of her 2025 album "I'm Only F**king Myself," Young is currently working on her follow-up record with James Blake. She describes the new material as more "joyous and reflective," a shift she attributes to a significant personal transformation.

Reflecting on the period when she was writing her previous album, Young stated, "a lot of things were going on for me personally. I was working but I also was self-sabotaging and that is not a good combination."

She admitted that performing songs from "I'm Only F**king Myself" initially brought back difficult emotions. "There was a time when I didn't want to play it, I didn't want to perform it," she said. "And when I started performing, I was like, 'God, this album is so honest'. It's exactly where I was and that's something I should be proud of."

Young also expressed concerns about maintaining her creative drive without substances. "Even off the back of the Grammy, I was so elated [but] I was experiencing these feelings that I'd felt a couple of months before: can I still be that person now? Now I know the answer is yes."

"I've lost the dark times. I've lost the kind of pain and the comedowns and the really excessive big feelings. And I've lost being high. But I've also gained so much perspective and clarity and joy," she added.

Lola Young explained that in 2024-2025 'a lot of things were going on for me personally'

Addressing online speculation that her team had been pushing her too hard, Young clarified, "I want to say this: there was a lot of hate [online] to people around me, my manager and other people that were in my team. I'm in control; my team work for me and that's the truth."

Last week, the Grammy-winning artist announced her 17-date "Everything Begins" North American Tour for Spring 2027, her largest headline shows to date. This follows a successful string of UK dates over the summer and her return to the All Things Go festival, where she previously collapsed.

Young began her career at 17 and gained global recognition in 2024 when her single "Messy" went viral on TikTok and topped international charts.
