Little Britain Reportedly Poised for Return 20 Years After Being Axed

The controversial British sitcom Little Britain is reportedly set to return to screens two decades after its original run ended. Sources suggest that creators David Walliams and Matt Lucas have hinted at a comeback by reviving Little Britain Ltd, the company that produced the show.

However, it is anticipated that the series would likely be picked up by a streaming service rather than a traditional broadcaster. Little Britain was removed from BBC iPlayer, Netflix, and BritBox in June 2020 due to concerns over its use of blackface characters, which are now widely considered unacceptable.

A source told The Sun that the show's controversial nature makes a return to mainstream channels unlikely. "It's much more likely to end up going to one of the streamers who are making braver decisions," the source stated.

In January, David Walliams expressed his belief that there was "a future" for Little Britain, acknowledging that the current media landscape is different. He noted that even boundary-pushing content is finding a platform on streaming services like Netflix, suggesting that a revival could be possible in that environment.

Last year, Walliams and co-star Matt Lucas teased a new project together, humorously commenting on their inability to be "cancelled again." Walliams also mentioned that clips of the show are circulating widely on platforms like TikTok, introducing it to a new generation of viewers.

Little Britain originally aired on BBC Three and BBC One across three seasons between 2003 and 2006, totaling 44 episodes. The series featured a variety of characters, including Vicky Pollard, Lou and Andy, and Carol the receptionist, brought to life by Walliams and Lucas.

Separately, it was reported last week that HarperCollins will no longer print books written by David Walliams, nine months after the author was dropped by the publisher following allegations of inappropriate behavior, which he has denied.
