Lily Allen Cancels New Zealand Show Due to Viral Infection
The singer expressed disappointment on Instagram after being forced to cancel her Auckland performance with less than 24 hours' notice.
Lily Allen has canceled a scheduled performance in Auckland, New Zealand, due to a viral infection. The singer announced the cancellation on Tuesday night, less than 24 hours before the show was set to take place at Spark Arena.
Allen shared the news via Instagram, expressing her regret to fans. "To my West End Girls in Auckland, I am so sorry to have to tell you that I have come down with a viral infection and am unable to perform tonight," she wrote. "I was really looking forward to seeing you all and am absolutely gutted to be letting you down."
She added that all tickets would be refunded and expressed hope for a future return to the city. The cancellation comes as part of the New Zealand and Australian leg of her global "West End Girl" tour. This tour marks Allen's largest headline tour to date, featuring songs from her latest album, which is described as an ode to her marriage.
Allen recently spoke about her views on the music industry's marketing of women, particularly those of a certain age. She told The Times Magazine that the industry often hesitates to market content addressing themes like perimenopause or everyday life, despite a potential audience for such topics. Allen stated that her latest album, which details the breakdown of her marriage, has resonated significantly with women of a similar age, giving her hope that discussing relatable experiences can be successful.
Her ex-husband, actor David Harbour, previously commented on the album, acknowledging Allen's right to use her experiences in her art but noting that his perspective differed from the narrative presented in the music.
