Liam Neeson Co-Produced Film on Tuam Babies Scandal Opens in Cinemas

The film "The Lost Children of Tuam," co-produced by actor Liam Neeson, has opened in cinemas, bringing to light the story behind the discovery of the deaths of hundreds of infants at a former mother-and-baby home in Tuam, Ireland. The movie, which aims to reveal the circumstances surrounding the scandal, has already received recognition, winning the Best Irish Film Award at the 38th Galway Film Fleadh in July.

The film stars English actor Monica Dolan as Catherine Corless, the local historian whose persistent investigation led to the uncovering of the tragedy. Corless noted that Dolan made a significant effort to accurately portray her role, including developing a Galway accent and immersing herself in the emotional and practical struggles Corless faced. "She wanted to actually become me, to get into the knitty gritty of the efforts that I had to put in," Corless said of Dolan's dedication, adding that the actress went to great lengths to capture the feeling and emotion of her experience.

"The Lost Children of Tuam" opened in cinemas in Ireland on September 25 and is scheduled for a UK release on October 9. The film sheds light on the grim reality of infant mortality at institutions like the Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home in Tuam, where it is believed hundreds of children died and were secretly buried.
