Kristen Stewart and Zoey Deutch attended the premiere of Nouvelle Vague at the Deauville American Film Festival on Friday, appearing together on the red carpet as the film screened in the Normandy seaside town.

Stewart, 35, arrived in a black semi-sheer mini dress adorned with pearl and diamond embellishments and paired the look with black open-toe platform heels and a chunky silver chain necklace. She completed the appearance with a grungy makeup look. Deutch, 30, who stars as Jean Seberg in the film, wore a black strapless gown with a purple sequin bow at the waist and diamond drop earrings; the two posed for photographs and joined one another for snaps on the carpet.

Nouvelle Vague, directed by Richard Linklater, is styled as a tribute to the French New Wave and presents a black-and-white vision of 1959 Paris. The film is described as a charming retelling of Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless and follows the moment when a bold new filmmaker is about to make history, though those around him do not yet appreciate it. The feature is scheduled to open in select theaters on Oct. 31 and will be available on Netflix beginning Nov. 14.

Stewart and Deutch's red-carpet reunion follows a previous connection between the pair through the subject of Jean Seberg. Stewart portrayed the late actress in the 2019 political thriller Seberg, a biopic that chronicled Seberg's life and death in Paris on Aug. 30, 1979. That film included performances by Margaret Qualley, Vince Vaughn and Jack O'Connell.

Stewart is also promoting work of her own at festivals this season. Her directorial debut, Chronology of Water, an adaptation of Lidia Yuknavitch's 2011 memoir, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May and was met with critical attention. Stewart co-wrote the screenplay with Andy Mingo and is a producer on the film, which tells the story of a woman who becomes a competitive swimmer after surviving an abusive childhood. British actor Imogen Poots is cast to portray Yuknavitch, and Stewart said the project "has been cooking for five years" with the support of production partner Scott Free.

At a photocall for Chronology of Water in France earlier on Friday, Stewart drew attention for a separate look, arriving in a white mini skirt paired with a buttoned tweed jacket and black heels. Festival appearances by both actresses underscore a busy awards-season and fall release calendar for several high-profile projects tied to midcentury cinema and personal memoirs.

The Deauville American Film Festival, which highlights American films to French and international audiences, hosts a range of premieres and screenings each year. The Nouvelle Vague screening at Deauville brought attention to Linklater's period piece ahead of its theatrical and streaming rollouts and reunited actors connected through portrayals of Jean Seberg across contemporary projects.
