Kimberley Walsh Discusses Grief and Aging After Sarah Harding's Death

Kimberley Walsh has spoken about the profound impact of her Girls Aloud bandmate Sarah Harding's death, revealing it triggered significant health anxieties and reshaped her views on aging.

Harding died in 2021 at the age of 39, approximately one year after disclosing her breast cancer diagnosis. Her passing left friends, family, and fans in deep mourning.

In a recent interview on the Second Act podcast, Walsh, 44, described the unexpected loss as "horrendous" and stated it "massively changed" her. Initially, she experienced "major health anxieties," which medical professionals assured her were a normal response to grief. As a mother of three, Walsh expressed a heightened sense of responsibility for her own well-being.

"I've got kids, oh God, I have to live. I have to try to look after myself as best I can," Walsh said. She also reflected on a shift in her perspective, emphasizing the importance of cherishing each day.

"The other side of it is just like, wow. Make the most of every day. It is the biggest privilege to grow old," she added. Walsh noted that societal views on aging are often negative, but she no longer sees it that way.

Walsh, who shared a birthday with Harding, with both singers born in November just days apart, stated that every birthday now carries significant emotional weight. "Me and Sarah were the same age. Literally three days apart. And she didn't make it, obviously, to her 40th. Every birthday hits hard for me."

Despite the grief, Walsh highlighted a positive outcome: the strengthening of her bonds with her remaining Girls Aloud bandmates, Cheryl and Nicola Roberts, and Nadine Coyle. She described their current closeness as unparalleled since their early days in the band, noting they are among the few people outside her immediate family who have witnessed all her life's changes.

In September, the band collectively honored Harding on the fifth anniversary of her death. Nicola Roberts shared a throwback photo on Instagram, expressing her thoughts for Harding's mother and reflecting on how much Harding had missed. Roberts also commended the ongoing efforts to support Harding's charity legacy.

Fellow celebrities, including Katie Piper and Keisha Buchanan, offered messages of support in response to the tributes.
