Kendall Jenner Credits Makeup Artist for Popularizing 'Underglazing' Skincare Trend
The model shared how she achieves a 'perfected canvas' by layering moisturizer before makeup, a technique learned from her makeup artist.
Kendall Jenner has embraced the "underglazing" skincare trend, a method that preps the skin before makeup application to create a smooth, hydrated base. Jenner told Page Six Style exclusively that she learned the technique from her makeup artist, Mary Phillips.
"Mary pays so much attention to the skin before she starts the makeup, and underglazing is something I’ve learned from her," Jenner said. Phillips, known for her underpainting technique, applies Anua PDRN Hyaluronic Acid 100 Moisturizing Cream strategically on Jenner's skin before applying foundation to achieve a radiant look.
Jenner described the process as "creating a hydrated base and building from there." She also noted that underglazing "perfects the canvas" for makeup. The Anua cream, a product Jenner has been associated with as an ambassador, is lauded for its lightweight, fast-absorbing formula containing ingredients like PDRN, which is derived from salmon DNA.
This method aims to enhance a natural glow, aligning with Jenner's preference for makeup that still allows her natural skin to show through. "I love when the finished look still feels like me and you can see my skin," she stated. "The prep is a big part of that."
The Anua PDRN Hyaluronic Acid 100 Moisturizing Cream has also gained traction beyond Jenner's endorsement. Melissa Gorga has promoted it as a "home Botox secret" in sponsored content, and Amazon reported selling over 10,000 tubes in a recent month. Phillips has also used the cream in her own social media content, suggesting it as an alternative to traditional makeup primers.
