Katherine Jenkins has lent her voice to the M&S Christmas advert, reimagining Belinda Carlisle's 1987 hit "Heaven Is A Place On Earth." The classical singer co-founded Cygnet gin and is featured as the "fete" singer in the festive campaign.
Jenkins shared that the recording process for the single involved extensive additions, including two choirs, a string orchestra, and numerous bells. Notably, her children, Aaliyah, 11, and Xander, 8, participated in the children's choir, marking a significant moment for her son Xander who experienced nervousness before recording. The song's production was a collaboration between Fraser T. Smith, known for his work with Adele, and Tom Howe, who has contributed to soundtracks for "Ted Lasso" and "Daisy Jones and the Six."
Filmed during a heatwave in August, the M&S advert shoot presented challenges, with co-star James Norton reportedly enduring warm clothing. Jenkins, however, wore a lighter outfit, and she mentioned that Norton's father was an extra in the fete scene. The singer has been involved with the project since July and is embracing the festive spirit. She compared the anticipation for M&S Christmas ads in the UK to the excitement surrounding Super Bowl commercials in the United States.
Beyond the advert, Jenkins spoke about her personal life, including preparing Christmas dinner with her husband, Andrew Levitas. She prepares the trimmings, focusing on roast potatoes, stuffing, and vegetables, while he handles the turkey, as she does not eat meat. She also reflected on her 25th-anniversary tour, describing it as an emotional reunion and celebration.
In terms of beauty, Jenkins emphasizes hydration for both skin and voice. She recommends Biodance Bio-collagen masks, vitamin C, and zinc for pre-makeup application. For hair, she suggests hair oiling with Bur Bur hair oil. Her at-home beauty gadgets include the Face Gym Pro for muscle toning and the LYMA Laser for maintaining healthy skin, aiming for a natural aging process.
Jenkins also touched upon her gin brand, Cygnet gin, which she co-founded with her husband. The gin was developed out of a need for a spirit that wouldn't affect her voice, incorporating manuka honey. The brand has expanded internationally, including the US, UAE, Singapore, Australia, and Italy.
For festive drinks, Jenkins plans to serve a "Claus-mopolitan" cocktail, made with Cygnet gin, M&S clemencello liqueur, cranberry juice, lime, orange peel, and rosemary. She also mentioned a Welsh 75 cocktail featuring Cygnet gin and champagne.
Looking ahead, Jenkins has upcoming performances in Australia and Bucharest, followed by concerts in Brazil in January. She also indicated that a new album is in development and is expected next year.
