Kate Cassidy Marks Two Years Since Liam Payne's Death
Cassidy shared a video tribute and reflected on their final moments together, while One Direction bandmate Harry Styles dedicated a song to the late singer.
Kate Cassidy, girlfriend of the late singer Liam Payne, shared a poignant Instagram video on Friday to commemorate the second anniversary of his death. Cassidy, who dated Payne for two years, posted a clip of the singer playfully lifting her in the air, reflecting on their final moments together.
"Forever grateful this was our last hour, our last video, our last moment together," Cassidy wrote in her tribute. She urged viewers to "treasure every moment with the people you love" and concluded with a message to Payne, "Until the next life. I'll see you again."
Payne died in October 2024 at the age of 31, falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. An autopsy revealed alcohol and cocaine were present in his system.
On the same day, Payne's former One Direction bandmate Harry Styles tearfully introduced a new song dedicated to him during a concert in New York. The song, titled "What Is Enough," includes the lyric, "I could tell you what it’s like, to bury a friend on a Wednesday night gathered in the garden around a fire."
All four of Payne's One Direction bandmates, along with Cassidy and Payne's ex-girlfriend Cheryl, mother of their nine-year-old son Bear Grey, attended his funeral in Buckinghamshire on November 20, 2024.
This anniversary tribute follows Cassidy's earlier reflections, including a montage of photos posted for what would have been Payne's 33rd birthday. She has also shared details about the removal of tattoos in his memory, including "444," their "angel number," and "LP" on her wrist. Cassidy mentioned that the tattoos were not done well and she plans to have them redone later.
Earlier this month, Cassidy shared an emotional video on Instagram detailing her grief as she read old love letters from Payne. She described finding solace in rereading his handwritten notes, which offered messages of love and encouragement for her future. One letter encouraged her to "drive slow and remember to take your foot off the gas in life too," adding, "Your 20s are so difficult and you're halfway through navigating them. You're not lost at all my love. You're taking the gorgeous road to finding yourself and I can't wait to be there for every speed bump, left and right turn and roundabout. I love you."
Cassidy has spoken about how reading Payne's words helps her feel motivated and pushed to work harder, believing he is cheering her on from above.
