The K-pop girl group Katseye has canceled a concert in Detroit just 30 minutes before showtime, sparking outrage among fans and concern within the industry. Sources close to the group suggest that the cancellation is a result of mounting pressure leading to potential "burnout."

Fans who had gathered for the event expressed their disappointment and frustration on social media, with many calling for refunds and questioning the group's professionalism. The sudden cancellation has led some to turn their backs on the aspiring stars, who were seen as having a "chance of a lifetime" to make it in the competitive K-pop scene.

This incident follows a series of challenges for the group. In February, it was announced that member Manon Bannerman was taking a "temporary hiatus" to focus on her "health and wellbeing." Bannerman, Katseye's only Black member, had previously been the subject of speculation after reportedly 'liking' an Instagram post suggesting she was a victim of racial bias and unfair treatment. The group's management company denied these claims at the time.

Another member, Sophia Laforteza, stepped back from group activities in August to focus on her "mental health and wellness." She is expected to return in January 2027. More recently, in November, Megan Skiendiel was reportedly "unwell and unable to perform." She had previously missed performances due to a back injury related to scoliosis.

Despite these setbacks, the remaining members, Daniela Avanzini, Yoonchae Jeung, Lara Raj, and Skiendiel, have continued as a quartet. The group gained significant attention in February 2026 when they were nominated for two Grammy Awards: Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best New Artist. They also starred in a Gap advertising campaign in August 2025 that reportedly became the brand's most viral advertisement of all time, accumulating over 90 million views on YouTube.
