Julie Andrews, 91, Makes Rare Public Appearance in the Hamptons
The beloved actress was seen out and about weeks after celebrating her 91st birthday.
Actress Julie Andrews was recently spotted during an outing in the Hamptons, New York, a few weeks after her 91st birthday. The legendary performer was photographed stepping out of a car, dressed in a purple raincoat, white baseball cap, and pink sunglasses.
A source told The Daily Mail that Andrews often prefers to stay at her home in Sag Harbor, tending to her garden, and that while she is occasionally seen in town for tea, such public appearances are rare. The same source noted that Andrews is always impeccably dressed when seen.
Andrews recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her career, stating she is stepping back from on-camera work. She confirmed that she would not be returning for the anticipated third installment of "The Princess Diaries." She explained that while she still enjoys working on projects, her current focus is not on-camera roles.
"I think the absolute truth is that I think I’m really past all that now," Andrews said. "I’m not completely retired, but it’s a different kind of work that I do these days — [writing] books, and I do a lot of recording of podcasts and voiceovers. But truly, I don’t think I should be a part of it."
Andrews portrayed Queen Clarisse Renaldi in the first two "Princess Diaries" films in 2001 and 2004. She noted that the story for the potential third film has evolved, and it is now primarily "Princess Mia's story."
Andrews began her career as a child prodigy with a notable singing range, transitioning to a successful Broadway and film career. Her film debut was in the 1964 musical "Mary Poppins," which earned her an Academy Award nomination. She solidified her legendary status with the lead role in the 1965 film "The Sound of Music."
