Julia Stiles and "10 Things I Hate About You" Cast Honor Heath Ledger on DWTS
Stiles performed a heartfelt dance dedicated to her late co-star, later joined by castmates Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gabrielle Union, and others.
Julia Stiles, star of the 1999 film "10 Things I Hate About You," reunited with several of her castmates on "Dancing With The Stars" to pay tribute to their late co-star Heath Ledger. Stiles performed a contemporary routine with her dance partner Ezra Sosa during Dedication Night, dancing to Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," a song famously performed by Ledger's character, Patrick Verona, in the movie.
At the conclusion of the performance, Stiles was joined on stage by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gabrielle Union, Larisa Oleynik, Andrew Keegan, and Susan May Pratt, as a photograph of Stiles and Ledger was displayed on screen. Stiles placed a rose on the stairs in front of the projection, honoring Ledger, who died in 2008 at age 28.
"If we had to have someone with us on stage representing Heath's legacy or the film, I said it had to be the whole cast," Stiles told Variety. "I begged them, each and every one of them, and they all rallied. They really did."
During rehearsals, Stiles reflected on her friendship with Ledger. "I learned a lot from Heath," she expressed. "It was so easy with him. I have so many great memories. I really wish I could pick up the phone, and be like, 'Hey dude.'"
The performance received a score of 36 out of 40, with the judges awarding all nines. Social media users reacted emotionally to the tribute, with many expressing tears and calling the moment "healing."
Dedication Night also featured other emotional performances. Olympic figure skater Amber Glenn dedicated her dance to her sister, receiving a score of 38 out of 40. Jenna Dewan performed a Viennese Waltz with Alan Bersten, earning a score of 37 out of 40. Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach also delivered an emotional contemporary dance dedicated to Frech's mother, scoring 37 out of 40.
