Josh Francis Axed From The Only Way Is Essex
The reality star was informed by ITV bosses that he will not feature in the upcoming 39th series.
The Only Way Is Essex star Josh Francis has been axed from the new series, the Daily Mail can reveal. The 25-year-old bricklayer from Essex, who joined the show earlier this year, has been told he has been 'rested' by bosses and will not feature in the 39th series.
Francis was introduced to TOWIE fans during scenes filmed in Vietnam for the 37th series alongside fellow newcomers twins Jonnie and Joe Gurie. He told the Daily Mail that he was 'a bit caught off guard' by the decision, but that it ended amicably. He described the situation as a 'surprise,' adding that there were 'no major storylines' for his character.
Francis also mentioned that he had been in discussions about bringing friends onto the show, which made the news of his departure unexpected. He stated, "from my point of view, it was a bit frustrating because I've like had other things in the pipeline that I had was interested in."
He was initially contracted for two series, which has now been completed. Sources close to the reality star suggest he was also considered for a 'bombshell' role on Love Island but was prevented due to his existing contract with TOWIE. He is also believed to have been approached by producers for other rival shows.
Francis's exit follows reports of a potential mass cull of stars from TOWIE, with insiders suggesting a move to return the show to its early days. The series has been renewed for another season, its third this year, and this upcoming run will be closely monitored to determine the show's future direction.
