Josh Francis Axed From New Series of The Only Way Is Essex
The 25-year-old reality star, who joined the show earlier this year, has been informed by ITV bosses that he will not feature in the upcoming 39th series.
The Only Way Is Essex star Josh Francis has been removed from the upcoming series of the reality show, Daily Mail has learned. Francis, a 25-year-old bricklayer from Essex, was told by ITV bosses that he has been 'rested' and will not appear in the 39th season.
Francis joined the cast earlier this year and was first featured in scenes filmed in Vietnam for the 37th series, alongside fellow newcomers Jonnie and Joe Gurie. He confirmed the news in an exclusive statement, expressing surprise but stating the parting was amicable.
"I was a bit caught off guard, as you can imagine. Nothing bad, though," Francis said. "It's all ended amicably, but yeah, I’m getting rested for the next series, it's come as a surprise."
He explained that he understood the decision due to a lack of major storylines involving him. "There were no major storylines, so of course, I understand that. So all I could really do was build good friendships with everyone already on the show, which I've done," he stated. Francis also mentioned that there had been discussions about bringing friends onto the show for him, which made his subsequent removal a surprise.
Francis acknowledged the challenges of balancing his commitments, including bricklaying, barbering, and football, with filming for TOWIE. "Don't get me wrong, something did have to give, but I always made it very clear that it was gonna be my bricklaying to focus on towers," he said. "And then to see me get rested for the next series was a bit of a shock, but it's ended on good terms, like the door's always open."
He also indicated that the decision was frustrating as he had other opportunities in the pipeline. "But from my point of view, it was a bit frustrating because I've like had other things in the pipeline that I had was interested in."
Sources indicate that Francis was initially contracted for two series, which he has now completed. There are also reports that he was considered for a 'bombshell' role in this year's Love Island but was unable to participate due to his existing contract with TOWIE. He is also said to have been approached by producers for other reality programs.
Francis's departure follows recent reports suggesting that TOWIE producers are planning a significant cast reduction. Insiders claim that with ITV's potential acquisition by Sky, producer Rebecca Kenny-Smith aims to return the show to its earlier format, which may involve removing several cast members. The upcoming series will reportedly be closely monitored to determine the show's future direction.
