Jesy Nelson Withdraws from "I'm A Celebrity" to Care for Twins with SMA
The singer reportedly declined a six-figure deal to remain with her daughters, who are battling Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1.
Jesy Nelson has reportedly withdrawn from a six-figure deal to participate in the reality television show "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!" to focus on caring for her twin daughters, who are battling Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) type 1. The former Little Mix member, 35, is said to have made the decision with a "heavy heart," according to new reports.
A source close to the singer told The Sun that Nelson "was so excited about joining I'm A Celebrity, mainly because it was giving her a platform to continue her campaigning for SMA." However, "Ocean and Story are unwell and there is no way Jesy would leave them. Her family are her priority."
The report indicates that ITV, the show's broadcaster, has been supportive of Nelson's decision, and the door remains open for her potential future participation. The Daily Mail has approached ITV and Nelson's representatives for comment.
Nelson publicly announced in January that her daughters, Ocean and Story, whom she shares with ex-partner Zion Foster, had been diagnosed with SMA. She has since been recognized for her advocacy in persuading the government to implement a national screening program for newborns for the condition.
Recently, Nelson publicly debuted her relationship with boyfriend Ben Davies, bringing him as her date to the National Television Awards. Earlier in the evening, she walked the red carpet solo, but Davies was later seen seated beside her during the ceremony. He was present when her documentary, "Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix," was nominated for an NTA Award in the Authored Documentary category, though the award ultimately went to "Our Girls: The Southport Families."
Nelson officially introduced Davies to the public via an Instagram post at the end of August, sharing a photo of him driving a Range Rover while holding her hand. This relationship follows her split from Zion Foster, who is also reportedly in a new relationship.
In her Amazon Prime documentary, Nelson discussed her separation from Foster, describing it as a "traumatic thing that we've both been through." She noted that such events can either strengthen couples or "tear you apart," and she felt it had done the latter to her and Foster. She emphasized that they still get along and there are no bad feelings, with her primary focus being her children and providing them with a positive environment.
