Jessica Chastain embraced a new look, debuting a blonde bob hairstyle and a daring black minidress at the premiere of her film "Heartland" in New York City on Thursday. The actress, 49, arrived at the Metrograph theater in a sleeveless minidress cinched with a silver belt, paired with tights and towering heels.
The most notable change was Chastain's shift from her signature fiery red hair to a platinum blonde bob, styled in waves. She had previously showcased the lighter hue on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" last month, admitting that the change was inspired by a three-month trial run with a wig for her role in "The Off Weeks."
Chastain shared that the blonde hair has elicited different reactions, with some people expecting her to be "soft and demure," a contrast to the "sassy" perception she associates with red hair. "It’s very special to be a redhead, but it’s also nice to have a change every once in a while," she commented.
The film "Heartland" centers on Misty Jones, a former country megastar who emerges from seclusion to investigate the disappearance of her niece, a rising country musician. The role requires Chastain to grapple with her character's past and the darker aspects of the music industry.
Other cast members in attendance included Garrett Hedlund, who wore a white pinstriped suit, and Ross Lynch, dressed in a black blazer and blue striped shirt. Chastain was seen posing for photos with Hedlund, Lynch, and other "Heartland" cast members, including Skyler Day, Sarah Helbringer, Carter Faith, and Paul Sparks.
Chastain later added a black blazer over her dress for the film's afterparty. This is not the first time the actress has experimented with lighter hair; she sported platinum locks at the Met Gala in 2023. Chastain mentioned that dyeing her hair for the blonde look was a new experience, expressing a "worry of, like, 'Am I going to ruin my hair?'" but ultimately finding it a positive change.
Chastain is known for her transformative roles, including her Oscar-winning portrayal of Tammy Faye Bakker in "The Eyes of Tammy Faye." That role famously required extensive makeup, with application taking up to seven-and-a-half hours, a process Chastain described as panicky due to the heat and weight of the prosthetics.
