Jeremy Clarkson Criticizes Celebrity Culture at Formula One, Dismisses Interest in Kim Kardashian
The 'Top Gear' star questioned the focus on celebrities over the sport itself during a recent appearance.
Jeremy Clarkson has voiced his disinterest in Kim Kardashian's presence at Formula One events, criticizing the amount of attention paid to celebrities in the Paddock. Clarkson, 66, shared his blunt assessment during an appearance on Sky Sports, questioning why the focus shifts to figures like Kardashian when the event is centered on motorsport.
"I'm here to watch Formula 1, not Kim Kardashian," Clarkson stated, expressing that he doesn't understand the media's or audience's fixation on celebrities over the race itself. He added, "Why would I care or less that Kim Kardashian is here?"
Clarkson's comments came in the context of Kardashian's relationship with seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton. Earlier this year, Kardashian had an awkward encounter with Sky Sports interviewer Martin Brundle on the grid, where she appeared to snub his attempt at conversation. Weeks later, Kardashian apologized to Brundle, joking that she was unaware of the protocol.
Clarkson suggested that his own knowledge of Formula 1 comes from watching on television and listening to commentators like Brundle, implying that his interest lies in the sport and its analysis rather than celebrity attendees.
Kardashian and Hamilton reportedly began dating in February of the same year, making their relationship Instagram-official and leading to their joint appearances at various F1 events throughout the season. The couple has known each other for years prior to their romance.
The attention on celebrity guests, including Kardashian, has been a recurring theme in Formula One commentary. Clarkson's remarks highlight a sentiment among some observers that the focus on non-sporting figures can detract from the actual racing and athletic achievements.
