Marks & Spencer has released its highly anticipated Christmas advertisement, featuring actor James Norton as a revamped, bare-chested Santa Claus. The three-minute ad, which also stars Lucy Punch as Mrs. Claus, begins with Norton's Santa grooming his beard in bed.
Mrs. Claus suggests he lose the beard, which he initially resists, calling it "my thing." However, he eventually shaves it off, transforming into a muscular figure clad in a towel. He then embarks on a trip to London, wearing a new M&S leather jacket and red scarf, to experience Christmas as ordinary people do.
During his excursion, Santa encounters singer Katherine Jenkins performing a Christmas cover of "Heaven is a Place on Earth" at a school concert. He also samples M&S's party food and visits one of the retailer's stores, expressing wonder at the offerings.
The advert showcases a range of M&S products, from clothing to food and homeware, under the theme of "the home of Christmas." The campaign aims to tap into the idea that Yuletide magic is about spending time with loved ones, a sentiment supported by M&S's customer research indicating that 81 percent of people desire a special time with those they care about.
Norton's Santa returns to the North Pole to share his discoveries with Mrs. Claus, who reveals she has been shopping at M&S for years. The ad concludes with Mrs. Claus presenting him with an Autograph shaving kit and stating the beard is staying off for good.
The M&S Christmas campaign consolidates its offerings across food, fashion, beauty, and homeware, presenting a unified message for the holiday season.
