James Bond Casting Narrows to Three as Screen Tests Loom

The intensive search for the next actor to portray James Bond has reportedly narrowed to three candidates, with final screen tests scheduled for this weekend.

Amazon MGM Studios has been actively seeking a successor to Daniel Craig, who concluded his tenure as the iconic spy in 2021 with "No Time to Die." Auditions for the role are believed to have occurred throughout the summer, with a list of potential actors that included Jack Barton, Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal, and Harris Dickinson.

Recent reports suggest the field has been reduced to just three individuals: Jack Lowden, known for "Slow Horses"; Jacob Elordi, who starred in "Saltburn"; and one as-yet-unnamed actor. This information comes from Jeff Sneider of The InSneider and is corroborated by Jordan Ruimy of World Of Reel.

Ruimy noted that an announcement regarding the next Bond could be made between the last week of October and early November. He suggested that Elordi might be the studio's preferred choice, while Lowden represents a more traditional selection for the role. There is also speculation that director Denis Villeneuve might be advocating for the unnamed third actor.

Variety has also reported that the casting process is nearing its conclusion, with final screen tests expected imminently. The publication indicated that these tests could begin as early as Friday, October 23, 2026, and that Callum Turner remains a possibility.

Screenwriter Steven Knight, who is currently writing the script for the new Bond film, confirmed last month that the role has already been cast. He stated that while knowing the actor makes writing easier, the character must still be developed independently of the performer.

Speculation surrounding the next Bond has been ongoing for months, intensifying after Amazon MGM Studios announced in May that auditions would commence. The casting process is reportedly being overseen by casting director Nina Gold and director Denis Villeneuve.
