Helena Christensen Dazzles at Derby Day in Custom Rebecca Vallance Creation
The iconic supermodel showcased her timeless style at Flemington Racecourse in a bespoke tweed ensemble.
Iconic supermodel Helena Christensen, 57, demonstrated her enduring fashion prowess at Derby Day at Flemington Racecourse on Saturday. She arrived in a custom-made off-the-shoulder tweed dress designed by Australian designer Rebecca Vallance.
Vallance, who also attended in a custom creation from her brand, designed the pieces to offer a modern interpretation of the event's traditional black-and-white dress code, emphasizing sculptural silhouettes and refined tailoring. Christensen's ensemble was complemented by a black wide-brimmed hat from Nerida Winter and a bold scarlet lipstick.
Christensen, a close friend of Vallance, was described by the designer as "incredibly warm and grounded" with an "incredible sense of style." Vallance noted that Christensen "effortlessly elegant, but always brings something unexpected to the way she dresses."
The appearance was part of Lexus's partnership with the Melbourne Cup Carnival. Vallance shared that she and Christensen met at an international fashion event and that creating a custom look for her friend was particularly special.
Vallance, whose clientele includes royalty and celebrities, is planning international expansion for her brand in 2027. Upcoming projects include a collaborative Christmas tree unveiling with AKI London and her appointment to the Advisory Board for the 2026 Fashion Trust Arabia Prize.
Christensen's career began after winning Miss Universe Denmark in 1986. She gained widespread recognition through her role in Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" music video and became one of the original Victoria's Secret Angels. Her past relationships include a five-year partnership with the late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence and a relationship with actor Norman Reedus, with whom she has a son, Mingus Lucien Reedus. She later dated musician Paul Banks.
