Harry Styles Features Fan Couple in Music Video After On-Stage Engagement
The singer invited a couple who got engaged during his performance of 'Coming Up Roses' to appear in its newly released music video.
Harry Styles has featured a fan couple, Marivel and Frankie, in the music video for his single "Coming Up Roses." The couple became engaged during Styles' concert on October 7 at Madison Square Garden while he performed the song.
Marivel and Frankie make a cameo appearance at the end of the video, joining Styles and other dancers in a wedding-themed scene. Following their appearance in the video, the couple shared their experience online, expressing gratitude to Styles for making their engagement "much more special."
"Meeting Harry Styles and being in the Coming Up Roses music video is something we never imagined," Marivel wrote on social media. "Thank you @harrystyles for making our engagement much more special and having us be a part of such a special song. You are truthfully the nicest and just an overall amazing person. Thank you for the roses."
Marivel also posted photos from the engagement night and from the music video shoot, which included a bouquet of white roses and a handwritten note from Styles congratulating them. The note read: "Congratulations! I am so touched to have been a small part it. Love, Harry."
The music video for "Coming Up Roses," released this week, is a wedding-themed visual accompaniment to the song from Styles' fourth solo album, "Kiss, Disco, Occasionally." The song, produced by Kid Harpoon with orchestral arrangements by Jules Buckley, focuses on the theme of love's impermanence and its enduring specialness, regardless of duration.
The video, directed by Bradley & Pablo, who previously collaborated with Styles on "Watermelon Sugar" and "Late Night Talking," is set in a surreal dance hall with an eclectic group of dancers. The visual narrative, which includes the bride and mismatched partners, has been interpreted as a metaphor for relationships not always unfolding as perfectly as imagined, and the process of learning to understand one another.
Styles himself has described "Coming Up Roses" as a love song about how something can be special without lasting forever. He initially began writing it as a Christmas song, but it evolved into its current form. The track follows previous singles from the album, including "Aperture," "American Girls," and "Dance No More."
