Gavin and Stacey Stars Ruth Jones and James Corden Announce New TV Series "The Choir"
The eight-episode comedy drama for Apple TV+ will feature a star-studded cast including Hannah Waddingham and James McAvoy.
Ruth Jones and James Corden, the creative duo behind the popular series "Gavin and Stacey," have unveiled details for their upcoming television project, an eight-episode comedy drama titled "The Choir." The series is set to air on Apple TV+ and will include notable guest appearances from actors Hannah Waddingham, known for "Ted Lasso," James McAvoy of "X-Men" fame, and veteran actor Jim Broadbent from the "Harry Potter" franchise.
The narrative centers on a brother, Ben, played by Corden, and his sister, Lisa, portrayed by Jones, who have been estranged for several years. The inspiration for the show, according to the creators, stems from their own family's connection to choirs, with both Corden's mother and Jones' sister being members. The plot is set in motion when Ben, who has been living abroad, is compelled to return to his small hometown. He finds himself facing a life and family from which he has grown distant.

The ensemble cast also features Tom Davis, Rosie Sheehy, Susan Brown, Jason Watkins, Alexandira Riley, Sylvestra Le Touzel, Tom Edden, Gary Lamont, Emily Lloyd-Saini, Stephen Leask, Luiis Rouf, Jo Foster, Evie Jones, and Farrah Abbassy.
Jones and Corden are serving as executive producers on "The Choir." Production for the series is currently underway, with a planned release in 2027. Jones expressed her belief in the unifying power of choirs, stating that amateur choirs, in particular, bring people together in a unique way. Corden added that the intention was to create a show about community and its significance, focusing on a group of individuals who gather weekly for the shared enjoyment of singing and the life that unfolds within that experience.
