Ganni and Lululemon Launch 80s-Inspired Activewear Collection

Lululemon has partnered with Danish fashion brand Ganni to launch a 22-piece activewear collection that draws heavy inspiration from 1980s dance films. The collaboration, released on October 15, infuses Ganni's signature Copenhagen street style with Lululemon's athletic technicality, creating pieces that evoke the energy and movement of films like "Flashdance" and "Dirty Dancing."

The collection features 80s-inspired designs with ruffles, off-the-shoulder silhouettes, and mesh accents, predominantly in Ganni's iconic leopard print. Lululemon's popular Define jacket and Nulu leggings have been reimagined with these distinctive touches. The campaign itself pays homage to the era, starring "Flashdance" actress Jennifer Beals and dancer METTE in a dance studio setting.

"80s dance movies have been part of my life since I was a child, so they felt like such a natural starting point," said Ditte Reffstrup, Creative Director at Ganni, in a press release. "I’ve always been drawn to the energy, determination and sense of freedom in those films, and the way dance becomes such a powerful form of self-expression. For the collection, we brought that 80s dance energy into the colors and details, then mixed it with Ganni signatures like leopard and frills, and Lululemon’s world of movement."

Jonathan Cheung, Global Creative Director at Lululemon, added, "It all comes from movement. When we first started talking about the collection, Ditte said her movement practice was dance, and everything flowed from there. What I love about this collection is its use of our technical materials combined with the iconic Ganni style."

To celebrate the launch, a "Club Dance" pop-up shop is open in New York City's Williamsburg neighborhood. The event features DJ sets, dance crews, and exclusive dance classes with top instructors. The collection includes items such as the Lululemon x Ganni Ruffle-Trim Jacket in Leopard and matching MR Tights, a Ruffle-Trim Cropped Tank, and accessories like the Back to Life Straw-Lid Bottle.

Other notable pieces include a Textured Jacket with ruffle trim, matching MR Shorts, a Merino Wool-Blend Bolero, and Textured MR Pants. A Jacquard Mesh Half-Sleeve Bodysuit offers a versatile layering option. The collection aims to blend nostalgic flair with functional activewear, encouraging self-expression through movement.
