Football club apologizes after raunchy male revue goes too far
Banbury United FC's clubhouse hosted a UK Pleasure Boys performance that local residents and the club deemed inappropriate.
Banbury United FC has issued an apology after a male revue event at its clubhouse reportedly became overly explicit, leading to outrage among some attendees and prompting the club to review its booking policies.
The event, hosted at The Spencer Clubhouse by the UK Pleasure Boys as part of their 'Wet & Wild' tour, was advertised as an 18+ ticketed show promising "steamy entertainment." However, video clips that emerged on social media depicted performers engaging in acts that went beyond what many expected, including alleged sex acts with audience members.
In response to the fallout, Banbury United FC released a statement acknowledging the videos and stating that "part of the performance towards the end went beyond what we find acceptable at our venue." The club apologized to anyone in attendance who was offended and confirmed that the venue was booked by an external promoter. They also indicated a review of their hiring and conduct terms for future performance events.
Reactions from locals on social media were divided. Some expressed dismay, feeling the event devolved into a "porn show" rather than a conventional striptease and ruined the evening. Others defended the performance, arguing that attendees knew what they were purchasing tickets for and that those who were offended could have left. Some attendees indicated they would book again, describing the performers as "fantastic" despite parts of the show being "wooah."
The UK Pleasure Boys' tour has been ongoing, with further dates scheduled across the UK. Ticket prices for their shows typically range from £16.50 to £27.50 for VIP seating, and descriptions promise "the country's hottest performers" in a "high-energy, cheeky and electrifying male revue."
The incident at Banbury United FC highlights the challenges venues face when hosting adult-oriented entertainment and the importance of clear booking agreements and conduct policies.
