Florence Pugh was seen in Mayfair on Friday evening, sporting a daring sheer black dress. The appearance followed a screening of her new Netflix show, "East of Eden," an adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel.
Pugh, 30, plays the complex character Cathy Ames in the seven-part series, which is set in early 20th-century California and explores the intertwined lives of two families.
During promotional activities for "East of Eden," Pugh addressed reports of on-set tension with director Olivia Wilde during the filming of their 2022 film "Don't Worry Darling." Claims of a rift between the two stars circulated widely, reportedly stemming from Wilde's relationship with Harry Styles.
Wilde has previously denied accusations of a "screaming match" on set. Pugh, in a conversation with Vanity Fair, described experiencing "difficulties" but stated her focus on her career and life. "I don't like messy sets. I want people to come to work and work, and enjoy that it's a luxury to do this," Pugh remarked, adding that "when moods change on set, it's because someone is preventing that from happening, and that's what makes people feel like they haven't been cared for."
Wilde, discussing the speculation in June, denied any "screaming match" and stated she was advised against addressing the rumors at the time. "I was told, 'Don't say a f**king word. Just go out there and smile,'" Wilde recounted, expressing regret over not handling it differently.
Reports had suggested that Pugh took issue with Wilde's relationship with Styles while Wilde was still engaged to Jason Sudeikis. Further fueling the narrative was a leaked video where Wilde referred to Pugh as "Miss Flo" and suggested she needed a "wake-up call."
Insiders also claimed that Pugh and Wilde had a "screaming match" due to Pugh's concerns over Wilde's "frequent, unexplained absences" on set, which were often attributed to Wilde spending time with Styles.
Despite the widespread speculation, a joint statement from 40 individuals who worked on "Don't Worry Darling," including producer Miri Yoon, was released after the film's premiere. This statement aimed to refute what they called "absurd" and "completely false" claims about the set, asserting that "Olivia is an incredible leader and director who was present with and involved in every aspect of production."
