Filming Underway for Third 'The Inbetweeners' Movie, Key Character's Return Uncertain

Filming for the anticipated third movie installment of the British sitcom "The Inbetweeners" is currently in progress, featuring new scenes that place the character Simon Cooper in a precarious situation. In one sequence, Joe Thomas, reprising his role as Simon, is depicted fleeing a house in his underwear, pursued by a love rival armed with a golf club.

New Scenes and Cast Reunions

The four main stars, Simon Bird (Will McKenzie), Joe Thomas (Simon Cooper), James Buckley (Jay Cartwright), and Blake Harrison (Neil Sutherland), have all returned for the new film. The news of the movie's development emerged recently, following months of speculation about a revival of the series, which originally aired on Channel 4 from 2008 to 2010. The show's success led to two films in 2011 and 2014, and a reunion special in 2019.

Uncertainty Surrounds Emily Atack's Role

Amidst the excitement for the new movie, significant speculation surrounds the potential return of Emily Atack, who played Charlotte 'Big Jugs' Hinchcliffe. Reports suggest that Atack may not be involved in the new film due to an alleged past feud with James Buckley. Sources indicate that Atack was previously excluded from a 2019 reunion show, reportedly because Buckley feared his wife would discover details of a past brief relationship between them.

A source claimed that producers had to remove Atack from the reunion just 24 hours before filming began, stating that Buckley issued an ultimatum. At the time, Atack expressed disappointment but suggested the decision was a change in production direction. Creators are reportedly keen to have Atack back, viewing her return as a crucial element for the film's completeness. However, a definitive confirmation of her involvement remains pending.

Fan Predictions and Concerns

Fans have been actively predicting plotlines for the third movie. Some speculate about the characters' futures, including potential marriages, career successes, and romantic entanglements. Alongside these predictions, a segment of the fanbase has expressed concern that the show's mature and often risqué humor might be toned down to align with contemporary sensibilities, fearing a move towards being "watered-down and politically correct."
