Film studio Universal has taken down a high-quality pirated copy of "The Odyssey" that appeared on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter. The unauthorized posting was discovered on Sunday, and the studio has initiated takedown protocols.
"We take copyright infringement seriously and will pursue all appropriate remedies to protect our content and intellectual property rights," a spokesperson for Universal stated.
A lower-quality version of the film had previously appeared on X on Sunday and was removed after two hours, having accumulated nearly 50,000 views. The emergence of the high-quality version prompted strong reactions from users, with one noting, "The whole Odyssey film in an embedded video on Twitter. Crazy." Another user commented, "Someone leaked The Odyssey movie in HD. I thought it was fake but it's true."
The leak is not expected to significantly impact the film's box office performance. "The Odyssey" has already earned $215 million worldwide in its second weekend, bringing its total gross to $640 million.
