Emma Corrin Discusses Nonbinary Identity and Relationship in Harper's Bazaar Feature

Emma Corrin has spoken about the experience of being "put in a box" due to their nonbinary identity. In an interview accompanying a fashion shoot for Harper's Bazaar UK, the actor discussed the public's desire for certainty and their own evolving sense of self.

"I think people always want answers because they feel there is security in certainty. So they want to put you in a box," Corrin stated. "But I think we all do that to some extent."

Corrin, who came out as queer in 2021 and adopted they/them pronouns in the summer of 2022, has been in the public eye for their role in a new Netflix adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice," where they portray Elizabeth Bennet. The series is slated for release in December.

Regarding their personal life, Corrin offered a rare insight into their relationship with actor Zachary Hart, whom they began dating in 2025. Corrin referred to Hart as "the one."

"He challenges me all the time," Corrin said when asked about qualities valued in a partner, emphasizing the importance of a partner's mind and the ability to share laughter and continuous growth.

The couple met in early 2025 while working on a production of Anton Chekhov's "The Seagull," shortly after Corrin's two-year relationship with actor Rami Malek ended in April 2025.

Corrin also touched on their comfort level with discussing their private life, acknowledging that public discussion invites questions, though they humorously noted their own consumption of public discourse.

Reflecting on their thirties, Corrin expressed a greater sense of certainty about their identity compared to their twenties, a period described as more chaotic and experimental. "Now I've landed in my thirties, I feel much more certain about who I want to be, who I am," they said, adding that the process of self-discovery is ongoing.

Emma Corrin cradled a bird in one of the striking fashion shots.

When preparing for the role of Elizabeth Bennet, Corrin adopted a strategy of focusing on the scene and scene partners, rather than external reviews. "I avoid reviews. It's fairly easy to go, 'These people love it', and then when a bad one comes out, you're like, 'I should never work again,'" they explained.

Details about the "Pride and Prejudice" adaptation emerged recently, with creator Dolly Alderton sharing that the cast, including Olivia Colman and the actresses playing the Bennet sisters, formed a close bond. Alderton revealed the existence of a WhatsApp group called "The Bennet B**ches," highlighting the cast's constant communication despite demanding filming schedules that spanned from summer 2025 into the winter.

The November issue of Harper's Bazaar UK is scheduled to be available from October 8.
