Elle Fanning and Glenn Close captured attention at the London premiere of "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping" held at Westfield. Fanning, portraying Effie Trinket, arrived in a pale pink gown and an avant-garde hat from Robert Wun. Close, who plays Drusilla Sickle, made a statement in a metallic green gown by Simone Rocha.
Close, 79, appeared in good spirits despite recently undergoing a hip replacement, using a cane as she arrived. "Sunrise on the Reaping" is set to be released in cinemas on November 20 and serves as a prequel to the popular book and film franchise.
The premiere also saw the attendance of co-stars Kieran Culkin, Ralph Fiennes, Whitney Peak, and Molly McCann, along with notable guests such as Kelly Rutherford and Lottie Moss.
"Sunrise on the Reaping" Details
The film is set 25 years before the events of the original "The Hunger Games." Familiar characters, including a younger Effie Trinket played by Fanning and President Snow portrayed by Ralph Fiennes, will be featured. Kieran Culkin will play a young Caesar Flickerman, a role previously held by Stanley Tucci. Maya Hawke stars as Wiress, and Joseph Zada takes on the role of Haymitch. Jesse Plemons will portray a young Plutarch Heavensbee.
Close's character, Drusilla Sickle, will feature her in a transformed appearance with prosthetics and fake teeth. The official trailer for the film was released in April, offering a first look at Kieran Culkin's portrayal of Caesar Flickerman.
Suzanne Collins' novel of the same name inspired the film. In a press release from June 2024, Collins stated that "Sunrise on the Reaping" was inspired by David Hume's ideas on implicit submission and the governance of the many by the few. She also noted the story's exploration of propaganda and the control of narratives, adding that the question of "real or not real?" feels increasingly relevant.
Francis Lawrence, who directed four of the previous "Hunger Games" films, is directing this installment. The movie is expected to delve into Haymitch's past, detailing how his experience winning the 50th Hunger Games shaped his character. Ben Wang joins the cast as Wyatt Callow. The "Hunger Games" franchise has achieved significant commercial success, grossing $3.3 billion globally across its previous films.
