EastEnders Stars Louisa Lytton and James Alexandrou Reunite for New Play
The actors, who played Ruby Allen and Martin Fowler respectively, will co-star in the dark theatrical comedy "Casserole."
Former EastEnders stars Louisa Lytton and James Alexandrou are set to reunite on stage for a new theatrical production nearly two decades after their initial appearances on the BBC soap.
Lytton, 37, who portrayed Ruby Allen, and Alexandrou, 41, known for his long-running role as Martin Fowler, will star together in "Casserole," a dark comedy premiering at Playhouse East in Haggerston this November and December.
Alexandrou is also a writer and director for the play. Lytton expressed her enthusiasm for the production after seeing an early workshop and actively pursued a role alongside Alexandrou.
"Casserole" is described as a one-act, 65-minute play that explores themes of love and differing beliefs about the afterlife. The synopsis outlines a story centered around a character named Kate, who experiences panic attacks after her mother's death and believes her mother is sending signs. She enlists Dom, played by Alexandrou, to help interpret these messages, only to find him consuming what she perceives as the final sign: her mother's last casserole.
The play's development involved approximately five years of improvisational workshops at Playhouse East.
Lytton brings over 25 years of experience in television, theatre, and film. Her recent stage credits include "The Battle" and the UK tour of "The Girl on the Train," as well as "2:22 A Ghost Story." Her television work includes "The Bill" and "Murdoch Mysteries."
Alexandrou, a co-founder of Playhouse East since 2024, first appeared on EastEnders as a child actor and remained with the show for over a decade. His stage performances include roles at Shakespeare's Globe in "Romeo" and "Othello." His screen credits include "Silent Witness" and "Call the Midwife."
While Lytton and Alexandrou were on EastEnders during overlapping periods, their characters, Ruby Allen and Martin Fowler, were not romantically involved until after Alexandrou's initial departure. James Bye took over the role of Martin Fowler in 2019 when the characters' storylines intertwined.
This production marks the first time Lytton and Alexandrou will perform together on stage. "Casserole" is scheduled to run from November 24 to December 19, 2026.
