Dua Lipa's Chanel Couture Outfit Sparks Fan Debate
The singer's ensemble at the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards drew mixed reactions, with some comparing it to 'grandma' attire and others to iconic characters.
Dua Lipa's choice of attire for the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards has ignited a discussion among fans, with her cream Chanel couture skirt suit and frayed black hat drawing a wide range of comparisons. The outfit, which first appeared on the runway in Chanel's fall 2026 couture collection, was presented by designer Matthieu Blazy.
The ensemble featured vining embroidery and botanical details on the skirt and jacket, fastened with purple pansy buttons. A safety pin adorned with pearls and chain was attached to the front, while ornate black embellishments trimmed the collar and cuffs. Lipa's hat, crafted from black raffia to resemble straw, was a particular point of conversation, with some social media users likening it to a "bird nest."
Fans took to social media to share their opinions. "Giving grandma," one commenter wrote, while another suggested the look evoked "Mary Poppins." Other comparisons included Emily Gilmore from "Gilmore Girls" and even Queen Elizabeth II. Some observers noted a resemblance to Audrey Hepburn's Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady."
Stylist Lorenzo Posocco completed Lipa's look by fashioning a Chanel necklace into an anklet, pairing it with black satin pumps and a handbag from the French fashion house. For added sparkle, Lipa wore Bulgari diamond earrings and a diamond-encrusted Serpenti Viper ring.
This is not the first time Lipa has showcased Chanel designs. The singer, a Chanel ambassador since 2025, previously wore a custom Blazy-designed couture gown to her wedding and was seen in a Chanel coat at a recent Yankees game. She has also been photographed with a large Chanel beach bag.
Inside the Museum of Modern Art, Lipa and fellow Chanel ambassador A$AP Rocky presented Blazy with the Fashion Innovator Award at the event.
