Dua Lipa Celebrates Cousin's Wedding in Kosovo, Performs Traditional Dance

Pop superstar Dua Lipa recently attended her cousin And Gjakova's wedding in Prishtina, Kosovo, celebrating her Albanian heritage. Three months after her own wedding festivities in Sicily, Lipa joined family and friends for the "big Albanian wedding" of her cousin and his bride, Rozafa Kelmendi.

During the reception, Lipa, 31, shared a video on Instagram of herself performing a traditional dance with her father, Dukagjin Lipa, 57. In the clip, she expertly balanced a glass on her head while executing dance moves, drawing cheers from attendees. The performance earned her praise from fans, with one calling her an "Albanian queen."

Lipa posted a carousel of images and videos from the event, captioning them: "My cousin married the woman of his dreams and we had a big Albanian wedding!!! @andgjakova @kelmendirozafa." She also added the Albanian phrase "po na rritet rrethi!!!!!," which translates to "our circle is growing."

Lipa's mother, Anesa, 54, her sister Rina, 25, and her brother Gjin, 20, were also in attendance. Her husband, Callum Turner, was not present at the wedding. The singer was seen in a black feathered dress with a low back, and earlier in the weekend, she wore a vintage crochet top by Lou de Bétholy.

Lipa, who was born in London to Kosovar Albanian parents who emigrated from Kosovo, has spoken openly about her heritage. She spoke Albanian as her first language and returned to Prishtina with her family after Kosovo declared independence in 2008. At age 15, she moved back to London to pursue her music career.

In 2022, Lipa was granted Albanian citizenship in a ceremony where President Bajram Begaj acknowledged her role in making Albanians known worldwide through her music. She and her father co-founded the Sunny Hill Foundation in 2016 to support people facing financial difficulties through annual concerts held in Kosovo.

Lipa, who married Turner legally in May, recently reflected on their wedding day, telling Vogue Italia that they focused on creating memories and staying connected throughout the celebration. She also discussed balancing her career and personal life, noting her partner's understanding and support for her ambition.

Regarding her music, Lipa suggested her happiness in her marriage might influence her songwriting, potentially shifting from heartbreak-inspired themes to exploring the nuances of found love. Turner also recently expressed his desire to start a family within the next decade, telling Esquire UK that he hopes to have children.
