Drew McIntyre Ventures Beyond the Ring in New Micro-Drama 'Agent of Shadows'
WWE star Drew McIntyre stars as a secret agent in the short-form series 'Agent of Shadows,' highlighting WWE's expanding presence in entertainment.
WWE superstar Drew McIntyre is stepping into the role of a secret agent in the new micro-drama series 'Agent of Shadows.' The series, which premieres on the short-form video platform ReelShort on October 23, features McIntyre alongside actor Chase Mattson and a cast of fellow WWE performers.
In 'Agent of Shadows,' McIntyre portrays a formidable secret agent tasked with protecting a young girl from a billionaire arms dealer. The series is notable for its release on ReelShort, a streaming service designed for short-form content catering to a social media audience. McIntyre told OutKick Dropkick that he discovered ReelShort during his travels for wrestling and filming, finding it an engaging way to pass time.
"I had a look at it, it was a lot of fun, a lot of chance to show some range, and I went, heck yeah, I wanna be part of this thing," McIntyre said of his involvement. "It has the action, the comedy and it has heart, too."
Mattson, who also stars in the series, was drawn to the project due to his martial arts background and his ability to connect with his character, Adam. "I just felt like Adam, the character, was a lot like myself and I loved how much I could resonate with it so fast," Mattson stated. "I love the amount of action, comedy and a little bit of romance that was spread throughout the script. I was like, I need to be a part of this."
Mattson, initially unaware of McIntyre's acting ambitions beyond wrestling, described the WWE star as "a giant" but also "the nicest guy I’ve ever met." He expressed feeling honored to act alongside McIntyre, especially given the wrestler's recent film roles.
The series trailer showcases appearances by several WWE stars, including Royce Keys, Joe Hendry, Jacob Fatu, Nikkita Lyons, Hank Walker, and Tank Ledger, as well as WWE personalities Michael Hayes and Booker T.
McIntyre emphasized that 'Agent of Shadows' demonstrates WWE's expansive reach beyond traditional wrestling. "Not one thing is an understatement, or understatement of the year these days," he said. "I first came into the company in ’07 and I could not imagine it being any bigger and to watch the growth from then to now and seeing the company everywhere in 180 countries, 28 different languages, 800 million homes, billions with a ‘B’ social media followers, on ESPN, Netflix, billion-dollar deals cut by the billion-dollar man Nick Khan and now getting involved in the vertical-short world with ReelShort… this is not a new thing, this is a billion-dollar industry and it’s awesome."
He further commented on WWE's commitment to providing opportunities for its talent. "WWE is getting involved, giving our superstars a chance to showcase a different side of their personality in a more acting range with the action with the comedy and hopefully highlight using our platform to highlight, using the platform, a lot of the actors like Chase because it is the future no matter how anyone looks at it."
McIntyre has previously appeared in the 2024 film "The Killer’s Game" and is slated for roles in "The Last Druid" and the "Highlander" reboot. "Agent of Shadows" marks his latest venture into acting, leveraging WWE's growing influence across various entertainment platforms.
