Dolly Parton's final vocal recording will be featured on U2's upcoming album, titled "Carnaval de Luz." The legendary country singer recorded a duet with Bono for the album, which is slated for release on November 13, 2026.
The track, named "Torn," is the closing song on the album and also features Parton as a co-writer alongside Bono and Johnny McDaid of Snow Patrol. Bono described Parton's performance in an interview with Rolling Stone, stating, "She sang her heart out." He added that he was impressed by her performance, noting, "I cannot believe that's an 80-year-old woman."
According to reports, Parton recorded her part in June. Bono mentioned that she delivered the vocal performance after getting out of bed due to illness, a detail he noted can be heard in the recording. He expressed that the song is now difficult for him to listen to.
Initially, Bono had approached Parton for a collaboration on a separate project inspired by Irish folk music. However, Parton found that project "a little too Irish" for her taste and instead introduced "Torn" to Bono. He then worked with McDaid to craft the lyrics.
The album's producer, Garret "Jacknife" Lee, confirmed that Parton approved the final mix and was satisfied with her contribution. "Carnaval de Luz" marks U2's 16th studio album and their first collection of new material in nine years.
