Eagle-eyed fans believe Dakota Johnson may have offered subtle hints about Taylor Swift's "Patient Zero" music video through her jewelry choices. Johnson appeared at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards to present Swift with the inaugural Artist Director Honors and also to premiere the new music video, in which Johnson stars opposite Colin Farrell.
The casting for the video was first teased on a Thursday, but fans later noted that jewelry Johnson wore during a "Verity" red carpet event on the same day could have served as Easter eggs for Swift's video.
For the London premiere of "Verity," Johnson paired a sheer lace gown with lingerie from Fleur du Mal, accessorized with pieces from Cece Jewellery. The specific items included the "Devil Is In The Details" bracelet, the "He Loves Me" diamond ring, the "Sweetheart" necklace, and the "Apple Of My Eye" ring. The names of these pieces, fans suggest, appear to foreshadow the video's narrative in hindsight.
In "Patient Zero," Johnson portrays the wife of a manipulative character played by Farrell, while Swift plays his ex-partner. The video features the two women wearing matching outfits, symbolizing the pattern of mistreatment by Farrell's character. Lyrics from the song, such as "I know he charmed your family and friends / And you thought it’s ’cause he loves you / But it’s ’cause he loves how everybody else loves him," and "I know it seems like he shines so bright / But he’s bathing in your reflected light / On a free solo social climb," appear to reflect this theme.
Swift has previously stated that "Patient Zero" was inspired by a friend's experience. She recounted a situation where a friend was approached by an ex-partner's new girlfriend for advice regarding similar negative experiences with the man. Swift described the inspiration as an "interesting kind of angle on humanity and on relationships."
