Dakota Johnson Hopes to Start a Family, Plans Career Slowdown
The "Fifty Shades of Grey" star expressed a strong desire for motherhood and a shift towards a more personal life after years of consistent work.
Dakota Johnson, 36, revealed in a recent interview with Vogue that she harbors a strong desire to start a family, expressing that it is a deeply felt aspiration.
"I really do. I do, but for whatever reason, that’s the plan of the universe," Johnson stated, adding, "So I would love that. I hope that that happens for me. I’ve always felt, especially the last few years, that there is a soul that wants to come through. And I hope that I’m lucky enough to be able to do that."
She acknowledged that it can be challenging when friends and colleagues begin their own families while her own path has unfolded differently than anticipated, but she remains hopeful.
Johnson, known for her roles in "The Social Network," "21 Jump Street," and her breakout performance as Anastasia Steele in "Fifty Shades of Grey," has a career that has spanned much of the 2010s and into the present. Her filmography also includes "Peanut Butter Falcon," "Madame Web," and "The Materialists."
However, the actress indicated a desire to change her pace. "I’ve worked back-to-back for so long that now I have this deep calling to shift my perspective a bit and maybe have a bit more of a real life," she said. "I’ve been gone for, like, 20 years. The people in my life are so used to me leaving for months at a time."
Her focus is now on living her life more authentically, stating, "I want to unfold and unfold and really lovingly embrace this life."
Johnson is preparing for the release of her latest film, "Verity," a psychological thriller based on Colleen Hoover's novel, in which she stars alongside Josh Hartnett and Anne Hathaway. In the film, she plays Lowen Ashleigh, a ghostwriter tasked with completing a book series after the original author, Verity Crawford, becomes injured.
Johnson comes from a prominent acting family; her mother is actress Melanie Griffith, her father is Don Johnson, and her maternal grandmother is Tippi Hedren. This background has provided her with a deep understanding of the demands and nature of the entertainment industry.
