Daisy Edgar-Jones Wears Sheer Gown to Sydney Premiere of "Sense and Sensibility"

Daisy Edgar-Jones attended the Sydney premiere of the new film adaptation of Jane Austen's classic "Sense and Sensibility" on Thursday, choosing a revealing sheer gown for the event. The British actress, who portrays Elinor Dashwood in the period romance, was seen on the red carpet at Hoyts Entertainment Quarter.

The dress, constructed from a nude, see-through fabric, featured scattered silver sequins and a corseted bodice. Edgar-Jones paired the gown with white underwear and white high heels. Her auburn hair was styled straight, complemented by a soft makeup look with pink lip gloss and smoky eyes.

Co-star Esmé Creed-Miles, who plays Marianne Dashwood, joined Edgar-Jones on the red carpet, as did screenwriter Diana Reid. Creed-Miles wore a pale blue dress shirt with a tie and trousers.

"Sense and Sensibility," based on Austen's debut novel, follows the story of two sisters navigating love and heartbreak within the strict social conventions of 18th-century Britain. The adaptation centers on the Dashwood sisters and their mother, who are forced to relocate after the death of their father.

The film has received a range of reviews, with some critics finding the Gen-Z focused reboot to be "flat" and unimpressive when compared to previous adaptations. Film critic Brian Viner awarded the movie two stars, stating it had lost Austen's original charms. The Sun's Dulcie Pearce noted that the new version does not compare to the 1995 film starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet.

However, not all reviews were lukewarm. The Telegraph's Robbie Collin gave the film five stars, praising its performances for having both historical poise and a fresh feel. The Independent's Clarisse Loughrey awarded four stars, calling Edgar-Jones and Creed-Miles a "winning Marianne and Elinor" in a modern take that emphasizes yearning and earthiness.

The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw described the mood as "cooler, but interestingly austere, sober and thoughtful," while also noting "some strange casting decisions."
