Daisy Edgar-Jones Embraces Regency Style for "Sense and Sensibility" Promotion
The actress stepped out in a vintage Rodarte gown, drawing inspiration from her latest film's period setting.
Daisy Edgar-Jones recently showcased her commitment to "method dressing" for her role in the new film adaptation of "Sense and Sensibility." The actress, 28, was seen in New York wearing a vintage Rodarte gown from the spring/summer 2017 collection, featuring a heart design and a sheer, gold skirt. This outfit is part of a broader trend Edgar-Jones has adopted while promoting the film, incorporating corset-style dresses and light, whimsical fabrics reminiscent of the Regency era.
Edgar-Jones plays Elinor Dashwood in the period romance, an adaptation of Jane Austen's 1811 novel. Her promotional tour has seen her embrace styles that echo the film's setting. She has been seen with her dark hair styled in waves, further enhancing the period-inspired look.
The film itself has received mixed reviews. While The Telegraph awarded it five stars, praising its fresh take on Austen's work, other critics have been less enthusiastic. The Daily Mail's Brian Viner and The Times' Kevin Maher gave it two stars, with Maher describing it as "Austen by numbers, emotionally flat, dramatically uneven and bizarrely, bafflingly, conventional." "Sense and Sensibility" currently holds a 79 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Edgar-Jones has spoken about her connection to the character of Elinor. She told the BBC that she relates to Elinor's internal strength and sensitivity, stating, "I've always been attracted to women that are sensitive and strong-willed, but also deeply kind of internal... She's often described as the sense in the film, and Marianne the sensibility, but actually I think what I love most about Elinor is that she's full to the brim of sensibility, she's just able to kind of control it."
She also shared that her personal approach to love mirrors Elinor's "sense," as she tends to lead with her head and suppress emotions. However, she noted that playing Elinor allowed her to embrace a "wilder, passionate side," which she feels she has also learned to do.
In other personal news, Edgar-Jones recently discussed her three-year relationship with photographer Ben Seed. She acknowledged the challenges of their busy schedules but aims to avoid being apart for more than three weeks at a time. Edgar-Jones also expressed her desire to become a mother and voiced concerns about potential fertility issues due to endometriosis.
She moved to east London to be closer to Seed, whom she met on a blind date. Edgar-Jones described him as a supportive partner who champions her career, making her feel "safe and happy." She produced Seed's first short film in 2024 and expressed interest in collaborating on larger projects in the future.
