The Daily Mail has launched a new daily word game called Threads, designed to test players' vocabulary and lateral thinking. The game challenges users to find five hidden words within a five-by-five grid of letter tiles.

Each puzzle presents a grid where some tiles contain single letters and others contain two. Players must select one tile from each column, moving from left to right, to form words. Four of these words share a common theme, and the fifth word, known as the 'Golden Thread,' reveals this connection.

For instance, if the Golden Thread is "ANIMALS," players might search for words like "KANGAROO," "SQUIRREL," "ELEPHANT," and "HEDGEHOG." Some answers can be two words, such as "CARROT CAKE" in a "DESSERTS" themed puzzle. As words are found, their tiles are removed from the board, reducing the grid size with each discovery. Completing the puzzle requires finding all five words.

A new Threads puzzle becomes available each day at midnight UK time. Players can build a daily streak and share their results with friends. The game is accessible via the Daily Mail's Games section on its website and app.

Tips from the Lead Games Designer suggest players can start finding words from any position in the grid, not necessarily in order from left to right. Looking for tiles that could logically connect and paying attention to the shared theme of the four words can help identify the Golden Thread. Hints are also available to assist players who get stuck by joining two tiles together.

Threads joins a range of over 20 free-to-play games offered by the Daily Mail, including Relink, Trace, Sandwich, Sudoku, and crosswords, catering to various skill levels. The Games section is located in the 'Play' area of the Daily Mail app's bottom navigation bar and on the website's Games channel. The publication has indicated that more games and puzzles are planned for release in the future.
