Crazy Rich Asians TV Series Set to Reunite Original Film Stars

Four main stars from the 2018 film "Crazy Rich Asians" are returning for a new television series of the same name.

Constance Wu and Henry Golding will reprise their lead roles as Rachel Chu and Nick Young, respectively. Ronny Chieng will also return as Eddie, and Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh will have a recurring role as Nick's mother, Eleanor Young. The series will continue the story from where the hit film concluded.

Adele Lim, who co-wrote the original film, described the series as a "Crazy Rich" family reunion and the sequel fans have been anticipating. The show is slated to explore the characters and settings from Kevin Kwan's novels over eight episodes. It will be produced by HBO.

The original "Crazy Rich Asians" film, adapted from Kwan's bestselling book series published between 2013 and 2017, achieved box office success in the U.S. and earned two Golden Globe nominations. The movie featured an all-Asian cast and centered on an Asian-American woman's experience of culture shock upon meeting her boyfriend's extremely wealthy family in Singapore.

Lim will serve as showrunner and executive producer for the new TV series, alongside the film's director, Jon M. Chu.

The announcement of the "Crazy Rich Asians" TV series comes shortly after HBO's parent company, Warner Bros., revealed its significant merger with Paramount Skydance.
