‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Now Available for Digital Purchase, Streaming Future Uncertain

The film ‘Coyote vs. Acme,’ which faced an uncertain release after being shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery, is now available for digital purchase and rental starting September 29. Despite its digital availability, the movie’s potential streaming debut on HBO Max has not been officially confirmed.

‘Coyote vs. Acme’ was completed in 2023 but was famously shelved in November of that year as part of a tax write-off strategy by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. The film's director, Dave Green, and its cast and crew expressed disappointment with the decision. Warner Bros. later agreed to seek other distribution partners for the movie.

Ultimately, Ketchup Entertainment, a smaller production company, acquired the distribution rights and released the film in theaters last month. The movie stars Will Forte as an attorney representing Wile E. Coyote in a personal injury lawsuit against the Acme Corporation, stemming from the numerous injuries the cartoon character sustained in his attempts to catch the Road Runner.

The film has received positive reviews from critics, though it did not achieve significant box office success. It is now accessible for viewers to buy or rent on various digital platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango At Home. The purchase price on Amazon Prime Video is $24.99, with a rental option available for $19.99, offering 48 hours of viewing time after playback begins.

While a release date for physical media formats like 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD has not been announced, the movie is not currently available on any subscription-based streaming services. There is speculation, however, that ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ might eventually appear on HBO Max, as the Looney Tunes characters are still properties of Warner Bros.

This potential streaming release mirrors the pattern seen with another shelved Warner Bros. film, ‘The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.’ That movie was also sold to Ketchup Entertainment and eventually made its way to HBO Max approximately three and a half months after its theatrical debut. If ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ follows a similar timeline, it could be available on HBO Max around mid-December 2026.
