Courteney Cox and Snow Patrol musician Johnny McDaid quietly ended their relationship last year after more than a decade together, with sources describing the split as "extremely amicable."

Cox, best known for her role as Monica Geller in the sitcom Friends, and McDaid, who co-writes songs for artists like Ed Sheeran, had been together since 2013. They announced their engagement in 2014 but briefly separated in late 2015 before reconciling in 2016.

In past interviews, Cox reflected on the reasons for their initial split. Speaking on Running Wild with Bear Grylls in 2016, she admitted to making "mistakes," including "co-dependency or people-pleasing," and stated she didn't understand how to "regard love" in the same way McDaid did. "We were engaged for over a year and then we broke up," Cox said. "He's from Ireland. And the way he regards love is precious. We have to treat it in a different way. It's more special — you coddle it."

A friend confirmed the separation, stating, "Johnny speaks incredibly highly of Courteney. They had a very deep relationship and they remain extremely amicable. They are great friends and care about each other very much. This was not an ugly split. They had simply reached a point where they were living different lives."

Cox is based in Los Angeles, while McDaid, 49, has primarily been in London, though the couple split their time between the U.S. and the U.K.

McDaid, a successful songwriter, co-wrote hits such as "Shape Of You" and "Photograph" for Ed Sheeran. He was introduced to Cox through mutual friends, including Sheeran.

Cox has previously expressed gratitude for their initial breakup, noting it made their relationship stronger. McDaid has also spoken about feeling fortunate to be with the actress.

The couple was last seen publicly in September at the U.S. Open and in August on a double date with Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston. Reports suggest both have moved on, with McDaid understood to be in the early stages of a new relationship and Cox recently seen with her Shining Vale co-star Greg Kinnear, though they are reported to be just friends.

Cox also remains close to her ex-husband David Arquette, with whom she shares daughter Coco, and they are described as an amicable co-parenting team.
