Country music artist Mark Chesnutt is mourning the loss of his longtime bass player, Dave Sirmon, who died unexpectedly on the singer's tour bus over the weekend. Sirmon, described by Chesnutt as a "buddy" and a "great musician and friend," was with the band while they were on tour.
Chesnutt announced the news on social media Monday, stating that Sirmon died Saturday night. "He was somebody I could really depend on not only for playing music but for every aspect of the road. Advice, music, songs, the bus. Everything," Chesnutt wrote in an Instagram post. He also remembered Sirmon as "quiet but so funny with a great sense of humor," a "perfect country gentleman," and "one of the most positive people I’ve ever known."
Sirmon's wife, Louise, confirmed her husband's death on Facebook, stating that he passed away in his sleep on the tour bus. She mentioned that memorial plans would be shared in the coming weeks and thanked those who had reached out.
A friend of the couple also posted on Facebook, highlighting Sirmon's generosity and describing him as someone who "opened not only his home but his life to others." The post urged those who knew Sirmon to consider donating to a fund established to help his family with unexpected expenses during this difficult time.
Sirmon was a well-loved figure within the country music community. Chesnutt is currently continuing his tour, with Sirmon expected to be honored in spirit by the band on their remaining dates.
