A country music artist and conservative commentator, Alexis Wilkins, said she refused to remove the American flag from her Instagram bio after being told to do so by industry figures, a decision she described as a turning point in her political stance. Wilkins told Fox News Digital the moment inspired her to embrace and speak out about her conservative values.

She said she had not been politically outspoken before college, but a classroom experience changed that. She recalled receiving a failing grade in a course she had previously aced, a result she attributed to her politics. The interaction, she said, signaled to her that simply not going along with a certain ideological trajectory could affect opportunities, including on tours and with labels.

Wilkins said that while country music is generally open to patriotism, some industry figures pressed her to remove the flag or to align with specific positions to secure bookings. 'There are things that ultimately have to give up, and I wasn't willing to bend the knee to that,' she said.

She said the pressure extended to perceptions of patriotism, with industry insiders suggesting that proudly displaying the flag could be read as partisan.

During the 2016 election, Wilkins recalled that some colleagues warned that working with certain veterans organizations could be viewed as partisan, a development she said she refused to capitulate to.

Wilkins described the broader experience as a personal turning point and said she has used the platform to defend what she sees as American values. She attended the Los Angeles premiere of Reagan at the TCL Chinese Theatre on Aug. 20, 2024, illustrating her continuing visibility in culture and politics intersecting with entertainment.
