Cody Simpson has revealed a significant health setback, stating he currently "can't walk or talk" following a double injury. The 28-year-old Australian performer shared on Instagram that he recently underwent surgery for a damaged vocal cord and subsequently dislocated his knee. The injuries have stalled his efforts to relaunch his music career after his Olympic aspirations did not materialize.
Simpson explained that he had been on vocal rest for nearly three months attempting to heal a damaged vocal cord before doctors recommended surgery. "We decided to operate to aid the recovery," he posted. The performer also shared that just as he was preparing for his musical comeback, he suffered the knee injury while filming a new music video. Despite the pain, he completed the video shoot before beginning his recovery.
Reflecting on the challenging period, Simpson described the situation as "forced rest" and indicated that his album and planned live shows would be delayed. He noted that he has "some work to share while I'm down for the count" and vowed to "be back stronger."
This latest health blow follows an earlier announcement in May that Simpson had experienced a hemorrhage on one of his vocal cords while recording new music. That injury had previously forced him to cancel promotional appearances and postpone work on his upcoming album.
Simpson had shifted his focus to professional swimming, aiming for a spot in the Paris Olympics, but ultimately did not qualify. He had previously won two Commonwealth Games medals in swimming before stepping away from the sport last year to return to music after a six-year hiatus. Since his musical comeback, he has released singles including "Baby Blue" and "When It Comes to Loving You."
