Claudia Winkleman's 'Jangly' Wardrobe Ban on The Traitors
Host's jewelry and certain fabrics are prohibited during critical moments to avoid alerting contestants.
Host Claudia Winkleman has revealed that producers of "The Traitors" enforce strict rules regarding her attire during key segments of the show, particularly the "Traitors pick." Executive producer Sarah Fay stated that Winkleman is banned from wearing jewelry during this tense moment due to the risk of any "jangle" potentially giving away the game.
Winkleman herself is also cautious about the sounds her clothing might make. She admitted to avoiding certain fabrics that she believes are noisy, even if she has been told that fabric does not produce sound. Her footwear is also a consideration, with Winkleman noting that she must wear "spiky, noisy, scary shoes" rather than flats for the dramatic walk around the table. Her signature Saint Laurent boots, which she wore throughout the civilian series, cost approximately £975, and she owns them in multiple versions. She previously described her walk as attempting to build tension, enhanced by her "clompy footwear."
The presenter's distinctive style has become a notable aspect of the show, with her outfits often drawing as much attention as the on-screen drama. For promotional shots of the second "Celebrity Traitors" series, Winkleman sported vintage Vivienne Westwood tartan trousers, a coat from Brora, and Dr. Martens boots, accompanied by her signature fingerless gloves.
When asked if she would ever participate as a contestant, Winkleman humorously declined, stating, "No, I'm too thick." She studied History of Art at Cambridge University, where she earned a 2:1 degree.
The second series of "Celebrity Traitors" is set to premiere on October 1, featuring a cast including Maya Jama, Miranda Hart, James Blunt, Richard E. Grant, and Ross Kemp. They will compete for up to £100,000 for charity in the Scottish Highlands. The previous series' launch episode garnered over six million viewers, and anticipation is high for the new season. Viewing parties are being organized across Britain, with some venues offering events with prizes and encouraging guests to dress as Winkleman. A large mural of Winkleman and the new cast has been displayed in Manchester, and promotional efforts include content creators adding crosses to celebrity portraits after each in-show elimination, mirroring the game's progression. The show's theme tune was also performed by the Kantos Chamber Choir in a promotional event that featured cloaked figures and memorial flowers.
