Claire Sweeney in 'Advanced Talks' for 'I'm a Celebrity' Amid Jesy Nelson's Withdrawal
The actress may fill the slot left by Jesy Nelson, who pulled out to care for her daughters.
Actress Claire Sweeney is reportedly in advanced negotiations to join the upcoming season of "I'm a Celebrity," following Jesy Nelson's withdrawal from the show. Sweeney, 55, has a potential opening in her schedule after concluding her role on "Coronation Street" in August.
Nelson, formerly of Little Mix, withdrew from the reality competition series weeks before its launch due to her daughters' health issues. Reports indicate she decided to step back to care for her children, who are battling Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 1. A source close to Nelson stated that "there is no way Jesy would leave her children to go into the Australian jungle" and that her family remains her priority. ITV is said to be supportive of her decision, leaving the door open for future appearances.
Following Nelson's exit, "I'm a Celebrity" producers are reportedly exploring other options, with Sweeney emerging as a strong candidate. "Claire has had multiple meetings now with ITV bosses and has cleared her diary to make sure she's free to make the journey to Australia if she makes the final cut," a source told The Sun. "She's a soap icon and would be an amazing addition."
Sweeney, known for her role as Lindsey Corkhill in "Brookside" and more recently as Cassie Plummer in "Coronation Street," has expressed interest in the jungle environment. She reportedly spoke with fellow "Coronation Street" actor Alan Halsall about his positive experience on the show. Sweeney departed "Coronation Street" to star in a touring production of the musical "Annie."
Other celebrities rumored to be in talks for "I'm a Celebrity" include Wayne Rooney, AJ Odudu, Chloe Burrows, and Joanna Page.
