Cheryl Returns to The Voice UK, Viewers Applaud Surprise Appearance

Cheryl has made a welcomed return to television, appearing on The Voice UK's latest installment and earning praise from viewers for her role as a coach. The singer's surprise appearance comes as ITV seeks to refresh the popular singing competition for its 2027 series.

During Saturday night's episode, Cheryl joined long-time friend Will.i.am for the Battle Rounds, offering guidance to contestants. "I've stood in the shoes that the contestants are standing in. I know what it feels like to perform in this environment," Cheryl shared. "You've just got to know that you're good or you wouldn't be here."

The 43-year-old singer, known for her time in Girls Aloud, was tasked with assisting Will.i.am in selecting three singers to advance to the semi-finals. Her presence on screen clearly resonated with fans, who took to social media platform X to express their delight. Comments included "Cheryl looks amazing oh my gosh," "Suddenly all my sadness has gone having Cheryl back on my tv," and "It's so comforting seeing cheryl back on tv again."

Cheryl's guest appearance marks her official return to the show's coaching panel for the 2027 season, a move that follows a period away from the public eye. This new role signifies her comeback to television after a break.

The series has also seen changes in its hosting lineup, with Stacey Solomon and Alesha Dixon reportedly set to replace Emma Willis, who is moving to present Strictly Come Dancing.

This season of The Voice UK has been marked by controversy surrounding the departure of long-serving coach Sir Tom Jones. The legendary singer, 86, has stated that his exit was not voluntary, suggesting ITV removed him due to financial issues related to insurance. ITV released a statement thanking Sir Tom for his contributions, acknowledging his "countless incredible and unforgettable moments" on the show. However, sources indicate that fellow coach Will.i.am has expressed strong disapproval of how Sir Tom's departure was handled, leading to an uncomfortable atmosphere on set.

Sir Tom Jones himself confirmed his dismay, writing on Instagram that he "did not want to leave The Voice" and that ITV's decision was due to "a financial difficulty with insurance." He also mentioned being offered a reduced role, which he was not enthusiastic about. ITV has stated that while Sir Tom will no longer be a full-time coach, discussions are ongoing about his potential involvement in future series.
