Cheryl Makes Surprise Early Return to The Voice UK

Cheryl made an unexpected early appearance on The Voice UK during the Battle Rounds, offering fans a preview of her involvement before her official coaching debut in 2027. The Girls Aloud singer joined her long-time collaborator Will.i.am as his guest assistant, helping him select contestants for the semi-finals.

Her appearance comes after it was confirmed last month that Cheryl, 43, would be a coach for the 2027 series, taking over a seat previously held by Sir Tom Jones. Cheryl expressed her excitement for the contestants, drawing on her own experience performing in similar high-pressure environments. "I’ve stood in the shoes that the contestants are standing in. I know what it feels like to perform in this environment," she stated. "You’ve just got to know that you’re good or you wouldn’t be here."

This marks Cheryl's return to television after a period away from the public eye. The new series is also set to feature Stacey Solomon and Alesha Dixon as hosts, replacing Emma Willis.

The transition in coaching and hosting roles has been accompanied by controversy regarding the departure of Sir Tom Jones. The veteran singer has publicly stated that he did not wish to leave the show and was informed by ITV that his contract would not be renewed due to financial and insurance difficulties. ITV, however, thanked Jones for his "countless incredible and unforgettable moments" over his nine years on the show.

Sources suggest that Will.i.am is unhappy with how Sir Tom's exit was handled, reportedly creating an awkward atmosphere on set. Reports indicate that while new additions like Cheryl and Aitch are being welcomed, underlying tensions persist due to the controversy surrounding the coaching changes. "It's pretty uncomfortable for Cheryl, who is close with Will and has looked up to Kelly all her career," a source told The Sun. "This is her big TV comeback and right now ITV are letting her be the fall guy for taking Sir Tom's seat."
